Why October Is a Great Time to Plant in South Florida
Fall doesn't mean winter in Florida
When people hear "fall planting," they may picture cool weather and changing leaves. South Florida has a very different version of fall.
October can bring slightly shorter days, changing rainfall patterns, and more comfortable conditions for you to be working outside.
Start that privacy hedge
Want to block the neighbor's view? Fall is a good time to get plants established before the cooler, drier months.
Consider Clusia, Areca Palm, Podocarpus, or Cocoplum depending on the look and growing conditions you're working with.
Add some color
Fall is also a good opportunity to refresh tired planting beds with flowering plants.
Try Hibiscus, Firebush, Crossandra, or Rose Begonias for color that works beautifully in South Florida landscapes.
Don't forget the ground
A landscape transformation doesn't always require starting over. Adding mulch, river rock, or a few new plants can make an established yard feel completely different.
Plant now, enjoy later
Whether you're creating privacy, adding color, or finally filling that empty bed, fall is a great excuse to get outside and start planting.
